TN-CTSI invites you to attend: National Advisory Council for Human Genome Research public open session

There is a public “open session” of the upcoming meeting of the National Advisory Council for Human Genome Research (NACHGR; viewing available in a virtual format) on Monday, September 19, starting at 9:00 a.m-4:30pm CST.

Approximately every four months (in February, May, and September of each year), NACHGR convenes to discuss a range of issues relating to NHGRI, with particular emphasis on our Extramural Research Program. For more information about NACHGR, please see genome.gov/about-nhgri/Institute-Advisors/National-Advisory-Council-for-Human-Genome-Research.

Following my Director’s Report, Lindsey Criswell, Director of NIH’s National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), will speak about “NIAMS Research – Focus on Genomics and Genetics.” Next, Malia Fullerton, Chair of the NHGRI Genomics & Society Working Group of Council, will give the annual report from that group.

After those presentations, there will be four concept clearances presented by NHGRI extramural program staff. First, Chris Wellington will present a concept clearance on the “Genomic Community Resources” program renewal. Second, Lucia Hindorff will present a concept clearance on “Genomics and Health Equity initiatives.” Third, Renee Rider will present a concept clearance on the “Entry Level Training Modules (ELM)” program. Lastly, Lawrence Brody, will present a concept clearance on the “Center for Inherited Disease Research contract renewal.”

Two reports will then be given. Deanna Church and Martin Hirst will give an update about the Human Genome Reference Program. Finally, Jennifer Strasburger and Brenton Graveley will provide a summary about the “Capturing RNA Sequences & Transcript Diversity Meeting.”

To view the live webcast, click on the link that will appear on the home page of genome.gov on Monday or go to the NHGRI GenomeTV web page at genome.gov/video/genome-tv-live. The first portion of the open session, which will feature my Director’s Report, will also be streamed live on my Twitter account @NHGRI_Director.
