This Week From the Library: Enhancing Your Search Skills, EndNote, and Embase

Next week the library is offering the following workshops:

Enhancing Your Search Skills (Tues.)

This session is designed to provide an overview of advanced search features in commonly used databases, including search strategies and developing efficient searches.

Learning Objectives

  • Identify search terms for a research topic
  • Develop an effective search string based on a broader research topic or idea
  • Explore advanced search features of commonly used databases (e.g., PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, & Scopus)

Introduction to EndNote (Tues.)

In registering for this workshop, you are agreeing to watch the pre-recording before your session so we may discuss your questions and concerns regarding the software. This recording and troubleshooting session will be most useful if you have already installed EndNote.

In the workshop pre-recording, you will learn EndNote basics including creating and customizing an EndNote Library, adding citations to the Library using different methods, creating groups to organize references, de-duplicating identical results, finding full text PDFs for your references, and using Cite While You Write (CWYW) with Microsoft Word.

Introduction to Embase (Thurs.)

This 30-minute synchronous workshop will introduce faculty, staff, and students to the Embase database. This biomedical database has a number of unique functions to optimize your research, and this workshop will help attendees navigate those options. Though useful to everyone, the workshop will be especially helpful to researchers in the medical device, pharmacology, and basic science fields.
