Next week the library is offering the following workshops:
Accessing Your Virtual Library (Tues.)
This one hour online workshop will provide information on how to access electronic resources and services through the Health Sciences Library. In the workshop you will learn how to navigate the Library website, how to find research articles the Library has access to, what virtual resources and services the Library has to offer, and where to locate research help.
Introduction to EndNote (Tues.)
This one-hour online workshop will provide an introduction to EndNote, a reference management tool that will streamline your research process from collecting/importing references from online databases (e.g., PubMed) to citing sources in a desired writing style.
In this workshop, you will learn EndNote basics including creating and customizing an EndNote Library, adding citations to the Library using different methods, creating groups to organize references, de-duplicating identical results, finding full text PDFs for your references, and using Cite While You Write (CWYW) with Microsoft Word.
Research Impact Demystified (Wed.)
Impact factors, citation counts, scholarly profiles, oh my!
Join me for a discussion of scholarly research impact metrics. We will discuss common metrics, their advantages and limitations, and sources for those metrics. We will also learn how to match metrics to purpose by looking separately at journal, publication, and author level measures. By the end of this workshop you should be able to:
- identify examples, purpose, and limitations of both common and alternative metrics, and sources for those metrics
- understand journal vs article vs author level metrics
- choose and compile the correct metrics for your purpose
- track and enhance your visibility and impact with online profiles and scholarly IDs
Google for Researchers (Wed.)
This one hour online workshop will provide an introduction to using Google for research needs, from using it to find images for your presentations to using Google Scholar to track citations and find grey literature and materials in the Library’s collection and elsewhere.
In the workshop, you learn how to use Google’s various resources for your research, recognize the benefits of Google Scholar in order to analyze metrics and gain access to materials, and how creative commons can be used in order to better understand attribution and copyright.
APPR Workflow & Digital Measures – Department Chair (Wed.)
Join us to review the new Annual Planning and Performance Review (APPR) Workflow process within Digital Measures. We will discuss preparing your evaluation materials and take a look at the Department Chair step within the Workflow module in Digital Measures. This session is open for evaluators and Workflow Assistants.
Identifying Publishing Opportunities (Thurs.)
Join us as we explore tools and resources used to support researchers throughout the publishing process. We will discuss ways to identify potential journals, different types of impact metrics, and library services that support scholarly publishing.
