The Teaching and Learning Center is offering a Clinical Educator track of the Teaching Excellence Institute, beginning September 25. This program is a combination of monthly presentations along with some reflection activities and planning exercises related to clinical education. Specific topics will include:
- Faculty and student panels talking about strategies for effective clinical education
- Characteristics of Effective Clinical Teachers
- Teaching in a Clinical Setting
- Setting Expectations
- Feedback and Coaching
- Case-Based Learning to Teach Clinical Reasoning
- Questioning as a Teaching Tool
These sessions will be conducted by a combination of TLC staff and UTHSC faculty. The track is open to any instructor who teaches UTHSC students. Upon completion of the requirements for the certificate, participants will receive a signed certificate, the “Clinical Educators” medallion (both digital and physical versions), and a $500 stipend.
