March 3rd is a world-wide day known as Spread the Word to End the Word Day. It began as a pledge to stop using the word “retard(ed)” in our vocabulary and has grown in to a pledge to make the world a more inclusive place for people with intellectual disabilities. Last year 200 UTHSC students signed the pledge for inclusion, this year you can be a part of the movement by signing at www.r-word.org/ Signing the pledge means you plan to be aware of your language, practice inclusion, and/or advocate on behalf of people with intellectual disabilities.
