Big data presents not only a world of new opportunities but also new analytics challenges. There is an enormous search space for identifying the best prediction model and model parameters.
“Finding needles in the haystack with Big Data: from complex networks to large-scale predictive analytics”
Dr. Bian currently is an Assistant Professor of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) and an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock (UALR). He also serves as the IT Research Manager of Research System within the Information Technology at UAMS. He has a diverse yet strong multi-disciplinary background and extensive research experience in machine learning, data analytics, network science, distributed parallel computing systems and software engineering. He has contributed to a number of clinical and clinical research informatics efforts as part of the Clinical & Translational Science Awards program at UAMS. He has led the development of CLARA – an integrated clinical research administration platform that streamlined the management of clinical research projects, and the Trauma Image Repository – a medical image exchange platform that has been widely used in the state of Arkansas. His research interest includes big-data analytics, network science, machine learning, and knowledge discovery and representation. His research has produced a number of publications in various highly ranked international journals and conferences including JAMIA and JBI.
