“Diabetes affects 25.8 million Americans – 8.3 percent of the population and 26.7 percent of those over age sixty-five. Another 79 million adults (50 percent of people over 65) with pre-diabetes are at high risk of developing the disease over the next decade. One in three American children born in 2000 is likely to develop diabetes over their lifetimes. Globally, diabetes affected an estimated 366 million adults in 2011 – a figure predicted to rise to 552 million by 2030.”

As a result of these staggering numbers, Dr. Samuel Dagogo-Jack, director of the UTHSC Division of Endocrinology and president-elect of the American Diabetes Association, invites you to attend this year’s James H. Horner Distinguished Visiting Professorship Lectures as we focus in on “Controlling the Diabetes Epidemic: Recent Advances and Challenges.” This year we are privileged to have five distinguished co-visiting professors including Irl B. Hirsch, MD, from the University of Washington, who will deliver the Keynote Address – “Update on Diabetes Technologies and Glycemic Variability.”

The activity will be held on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 8 a.m. – Noon in the Freeman Auditorium 3rd Floor of the 930 Madison Avenue building. All UTHSC faculty, staff and students are encouraged to attend. This activity is an interprofessional activity that will provide AMA PRA Category 1 Credits to all health care professionals in attendance.

This is an event you will not want to miss!

There is no registration fee to attend, however, seating is LIMITED and must be reserved in advance by sending a request to utcme@uthsc.edu.
