Professional Development Workshop: Continuing in Academia

|

The Graduate Student Executive Council (GSEC) is hosting a three-part virtual professional development webinar series and the second installment will be September 23, 2020, from 1 pm to 2 pm. Join GSEC and special guests at various stages in their careers in academia via Zoom.

You might be asking yourself, what happens after I get my Ph.D. degree? Is a Postdoctoral position the only option? What else can I do with my Ph.D.? If I want to stay in academia, what can I be doing to be competitive? Can I get a teaching position at a University with my Ph.D.? How? How do I utilize social media (i.e., LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.) to market myself and look professional for prospective employers? These are some of the questions you may already be asking as you approach graduation. It may seem as though your options are limited.

To help graduate students become competitive during job search post-graduation, GSEC will host a three-part professional development workshop series to provide the following insights:

1) How to Transition into Industry.

2) How to Continue in Academia.

3) How to use LinkedIn and other Social Media for your professional advantage.

Our guests for the “Continuing in Academia” workshop will include:

Dr. Loretta Jackson-Hayes: Professor of Chemistry and Chair of Chemistry at Rhodes College.

Dr. Monica Jablonski: Professor Ophthalmology and Associate Dean for Postdoctoral Affairs, College of Graduate Health Sciences, UTHSC

Dr. R. Chris Skinner: Professor of Health Sciences, University of the Ozarks

Dr. Jordan Ross: Postdoctoral scholar, Georgia State University
