During the month of February, the Office of Equity and Diversity along with Special Events and Community Affairs, will sponsor events to commemorate Black History Month. As 2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the assassination of civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., UTHSC’s commemoration will celebrate Dr. King’s life and legacy. All University community members are invited to participate in each event.
Please join us for a special event to kick off UTHSC’s commemoration of Black History Month. This event will feature Dr. Altha Stewart, associate professor of psychiatry and director of the Center for Health in Justice Involved Youth at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She is president-elect of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), becoming the first African American to lead the organization. Dr. Stewart is a nationally recognized expert in public sector and minority issues in mental health care, and in the effects of trauma and violence on children.
Lunch will be provided. You must register to attend.
