Biomedical Research Awareness Day Celebration

LACU will be hosting a Zoom seminar on Thursday, April 15th from 12pm – 1pm to celebrate Biomedical Research Awareness Day (BRAD). BRAD is a national initiative devoted to honoring animals in research and educating the public on the importance of biomedical research and the humane use of animals. Guest speakers will include Dr. Anna Bukiya, PhD, Associate Professor in Pharmacology, Addiction Science and Toxicology (PHAST) and Dr. Jolieke van Oosterwijk, PhD, Chief Science Officer, US Biologic. Over her career in the department of PHAST at UTHSC, Dr. Bukiya has studied the role of lipid regulation of alcohol effects on cerebral circulation in multiple species including rodents, frogs and non-human primates. Dr. van Oosterwijk specializes in the development of oral-delivery of several preventative therapeutics. Her work at UTHSC has involved rodents, canines and ruminant species. Their talks will highlight how the use of animals has led to their scientific advancements. A limited number of seats will be available for attendees to socially distance in the lecture halls of the Cancer Research Building (room 114) and the Coleman building (room A 137). Gift card drawings will be held for all in-person and virtual guests who attend the webinar. Contact koconne7@uthsc.edu to receive access to the Zoom webinar.
