The leadership of the Office of Academic, Faculty, and Student Affairs (AFSA) will be transitioning in early 2021.
The current vice chancellor of AFSA, Lori Gonzalez, PhD, has accepted the position of Provost at the University of Louisville and will be leaving UTHSC at the end of January. Cindy Russell, PhD, associate vice Chancellor of Faculty Affairs, has accepted the interim position of vice chancellor.
Dr. Russell began working at UTHSC in 1993 as an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing’s Primary Care Department. From 1993-2000, she practiced as an Adult Nurse Practitioner at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Memphis, as the sole primary care provider in a newly established Chronic Cardiac Clinic. Dr. Russell was promoted from assistant professor to professor and served in various leadership roles that included Associate Dean in the Distributive Programs unit. In 2010, she transitioned from the college to an administrative campus role overseeing faculty affairs and educational technology. Dr. Russell has a diploma in nursing from Holzer Medical Center School of Nursing, BSN from Ohio University, MSN from West Virginia University, and a PhD in nursing science from the University of Arizona.
A search committee and timeline for the permanent Vice Chancellor position have not been determined yet.
