Join UTHSC Outdoor Recreation and The Wolf River Conservancy for a Volunteer Sustainability/ Clean-UP Paddle on Wolf River, May 24th, 9am-3pm*!

Only about an hour from Memphis, the Michigan City, Miss., to LaGrange, Tenn., section of the Wolf River is a true adventure. These are the first navigable waters for small craft on the Wolf River, only a few miles downstream from the river’s source at Baker’s Pond, in Benton County, Miss.

The primary mission of this trip is to promote sustainability and clean-up this beautiful wild and scenic section of The Wolf River.  This section has trash dropped from the up-stream bridges, and we are attempting to do our part helping keep this beautiful river free of plastic bottles and other man made trash.

There are No Wolf River Conservancy Membership or Fee Requirements for this Trip. This is a volunteer/service paddle.

Members of the Wolf River Conservancy familiar with this section of the river will accompany this trip!  The UTHSC Outdoor Recreation Program will provide any student, faculty or staff member with FREE canoe or kayak rental that includes PFD’s and paddles, all you have to do is provide a sturdy vehicle for transport.

If you would like to have a canoe or kayak delivered to you at the put-in at Michigan City and picked-up at the takeout at LaGrange, there are a number of outfitters that would be happy to help you out with a  modestly priced rental.

*While we encourage participation in all of our sustainability events, please understand that boating on any level is a moderately strenuous activity. This trip may require some “floating boat” portages and participants should be prepared for this level of activity.

If you are interested in joining us or you would like more information, please email Outdoor Rec Coordinator Erin Jennings at erinjennings@uthsc.edu, or call (901) 448-2766.
