This week’s tip is a reminder to be very cautious of ANYONE asking for sensitive information. This time of year, there are always scams “appearing” to be from the IRS threatening you about back taxes. There are always FBI or law enforcement scams threatening jail. The newest is impersonators of HHS (Department of Health and Human Services) wanting health data of patients from providers. Always verify who is asking for information.
This is best done in writing. Every reputable employee from a government agency will have an email address from that agency. Any suspicious contacts should be reported to abuse@uthsc.edu if it involves UTHSC data. If they are trying to get you personal data, report the scam to the FBI.
Stay safe!
