From the Chancellor: Communications and Marketing Wins MarCom Awards

|

Colleagues:

Please join us in congratulating the UTHSC Communications and Marketing Department for earning additional distinction for their three entries in the 2014 MarCom Awards. Two entries won Gold and one received Honorable Mention in the 2014 MarCom competition, which drew more than 6,500 entries from throughout the United States, Canada and 15 other countries.

A Gold award went to the Crisis Center Awareness Campaign in the category titled Media Relations/Publicity/Publicity Campaign. The Communications and Marketing team achieved outstanding media placements during the campaign, coupled with strategic advertising placements. UTHSC billboard partner, Clear Channel Outdoor, agreed to support this life-saving initiative by generously donating select billboard, transit shelter and poster space in locations around the city.

Memphis Crisis Center Executive Director Mike LaBonte told the UTHSC administration, “Since this campaign was re-instituted we have seen a 30% rise in our call volume. Keeping the name before the public helps ensure that those needing the services access it. The work of your staff and Clear Channel are making a tremendous difference.”

The Winter 2014 issue of Dentistry alumni magazine claimed the second UTHSC Gold, sporting a wordle on the cover that touted a novel “Seek and Find” feature article on expanded research initiatives. The publication won in the Magazine/Educational Institution category.

Artwork specially developed for the Colleges of Memphis earned an Honorable Mention in the category of Design (Print)/Graphic Design/Infographic. For more than four years, UTHSC has been part of Mayor A C Wharton’s Colleges of Memphis initiative to acknowledge and elevate an appreciation for the intellectual capital of Memphis’s higher education community. This effort has included an official, annual back-to-school event, organized by the mayor’s office, for college and university students, faculty and staff.

Administered and judged by the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals, MarCom is one of the largest competitions of its kind in the world. Well-deserved kudos to the entire Communications and Marketing team.
