First Annual Medical Education Symposium – Friday, September 30, 2022

The 2022 First Annual Medial Education Symposium presented by the UTHSC Academy of Master Educators will be held on Friday, September 30, 2022.

Activity Overview: This symposium will promote faculty engagement and development.  The objective of this initiative is to create a culture of scholarship and foster medical educator wellbeing. 

The symposium agenda will include presentations by faculty members in the College of Medicine and other areas of the University, as well as a poster session, and interactive workshops.

Objectives:

  • Understand the role of the educator while teaching in the clinical setting, providing effective feedback to students, academic mentorship, developing an effective curriculum, and simulation-based education
  • Improved coaching and mentoring capabilities, educational scholarship, clinical care, and scholastic contribution to health sciences teaching and instruction
  • Increased ability to teach and educate other learners, develop a curriculum that encompasses the totality of the student experiences that occur in the educational process, and create learning objectives that align with the University’s instructional goals
  • Discuss ways to foster excellence in patient-centered care and develop future leaders through professionalism, scholarship, mentorship, and collaborative teamwork

AMA Credit Designation: The University of Tennessee College of Medicine (UTCOM) designates this live activity for a maximum of 5.75 AMA PRA Category 1 CreditsTM. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Continuing Education for Non-Physicians: The UTCOM will issue Certificates of Participation to non-physicians for participating in this activity and designates it for CEUs using the national standard that 1 hour of educational instruction is awarded .1 CEU.

Accreditation: The UTCOM is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
