Examplify, AI, and the UT Health Science Center Honor Code

|

Dear UTHSC Examplify Student Testers:

There have been recent rumors about a student’s ability to purchase AI software that enables them to download exam content before an exam. We contacted ExamSoft to express our concerns and received the below response. Also, all UTHSC exam takers are encouraged to uphold the honor code and testing integrity standards established by their respective colleges. Thank you.

Response from ExamSoft Client Success Manager, Megan Sexton –

“From time to time, ExamSoft fields inquiries about rumors that students can engage in academic misconduct by decrypting exam files. Currently, claims are circulating that “dark web” hackers are able to decrypt ExamSoft exam files for a fee. Unfortunately, it is common for malicious actors to defraud students, collecting fees for services that they cannot deliver, knowing that students cannot pursue recourse due to fear of being exposed.”

We take exam security very seriously and investigate these claims to ensure that we are offering a secure assessment platform.

Based on our ongoing investigation, we have no reason to believe that encrypted Examplify files have been decrypted by these actors.

ExamSoft utilizes secure 256-bit encryption, which is the industry standard used for sensitive financial, military, and intelligence applications. Cracking a 256-bit encryption key is extremely difficult and highly unlikely.  Out of an abundance of caution, we work with independent third parties to perform penetration tests. We recommend customers use secure administrator user passwords to prevent exam-takers from accessing exam content by abusing the administrator user’s credentials.
