The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence defines Domestic Violence as the willful intimidation, physical assault, battery, sexual assault and/or other abusive behavior perpetrated by an intimate partner against another. Domestic violence is an epidemic that has taken prominent citizens out of our community; our teachers, our nurses, our daycare providers, our students and countless others. It is unfortunate that 50% of crimes in West Tennessee are domestic-related and that 1 in 5 crimes in Shelby County are listed as domestic-related. We hope that this forum will help victims and friends of victims become aware of the services that are available and help empower them to seek help from this silent killer.
