Department of Physiology Zoom seminar TOMORROW (Friday, May 29)

Dear Colleagues,

The Department of Physiology is pleased to welcome Dr. Jianhua (Jimmy) Xiong, PhD, NIH K22 PostdoctoralFellow at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Xiong will be presenting a Zoom seminar entitled Metabolic Regulation of Cell Fate and Function this Friday, May 29, 2020 from 11am-12:30pm CST. He is presenting this seminar as part of his interview process for the position of Tenure Track Assistant Professor of Physiology.

Dr. Xiong’s research focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying metabolic regulation of cell fate and function in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and then use the derived insights to reverse cell dysfunction in disease. As an NIH postdoctoral fellow, Dr. Xiong recently revealed how mitochondrial fatty acid β-oxidation (FAO) modulates endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition and the role of the Hedgehog-signaling pathway in mammalian heart regeneration. With the support of an NIH Career Development (K) award, he is currently studying how FAO and RNA-binding proteins regulate T cell differentiation and function.

Dr. Xiong’s Zoom seminar particulars are included below. The seminar will last approximately 45 minutes, and there will be time for post-interview questions.

Future Physiology candidate seminars are also scheduled for June 2, June 5, June 9, and June 12, so stay tuned for details about those seminar coming very soon.

We look forwarding to “seeing” everyone tomorrow and at all the upcoming seminars. Thank you!
