We talk a lot about phishing emails and how to spot the red flags when examining an email. But phone scams are still being used by bad actors to steal your money and information. Be wary about giving out your personal information over the phone. Many businesses do legitimately use conventional phone calls to contact customers, but so do scammers. That said, authentic businesses almost never request personal information over the phone during an unprompted call. Always verify who’s calling by testing them on who they are and how they know you before engaging. The elderly are a high target for these types of scams, so share this information with your parents, grandparents, elderly neighbors, etc.
