Cybersecurity – SCAM of the Week – Check the BBB Scamtracker

|

This week, let’s not talk about one scam, but how you can find information in your area about what has been reported to the Better Business Bureau (BBB). They have an online tool that tracks scams and gives some details about each one found. The tool can be found at https://www.bbb.org/scamtracker. You can narrow down your search to a specific area or use key words to find scams about a specific topic.

Also reported to abuse@uthsc.edu this week:

  • [Ext] _Notification__ – Looks like it is coming from UTHSC SharePoint site, but is an external email address wanting the person to click a link.
  • [Ext] Re: Change Payment method to invoice. – wanting the person to click a link to renew a Microsoft 365 license that was “cancealed”.

We are now starting to post emails forwarded to Abuse in our Phish Bowl, found at https://uthsc.edu/its/cybersecurity/phish-bowl.php. Bookmark this page for easy of use if you get a phishy email to see if it has already been reported.
