As reported to firstname.lastname@example.org, some of our campus community have received phishing emails that use actual (compromised) PayPal accounts in fake invoice schemes. The email states the recipient needs to pay an invoice, and if you hover over the link, it is to a real PayPal account. However, what you don’t know is that account is controlled by a bad actor who will move the money out of the account as soon as you deposit it.
Be cautious about transferring any money online.
Verify the authenticity of any transaction.
Keep forwarding any suspicious communications to email@example.com.
