Compliance Training Requirements for Summer Research Students

|

Now that summer has arrived, many of our investigators have agreed to direct summer research projects by medical students, college students, and/or high school students. This note is meant as a reminder that these students, like everyone else that is working in a research laboratory on campus, are required to receive Laboratory Safety Training that is administered through the Safety Office. Please make sure that all summer research students receive the required training before they begin working in the laboratory because failure to do so is a violation of NIH/OBA and UTHSC policies. In addition, summer students will also need to be added to any IBC or IACUC protocol(s) that were approved for the studies in which they will be participants. The form for adding personnel to an IBC protocol can be found at this address (IBC Update Form).  To add personnel to an IACUC protocol, please contact the IACUC office at 448-3904 or mbraslow@uthsc.edu.  For information about the availability of training, please contact the UTHSC Institutional Biosafety Officer, Ms. Francine Rogers by phone (901) 448-6114 or email (frogers1@uthsc.edu).
