This is the 26th year for the “It’s a Family Affair” Health Fair offered in the Memphis community and the 2nd year held on our campus. A wide variety of community groups participate and many services are offered. We would appreciate your help in welcoming and serving the more than 1,400 visitors expected to be on campus.
There are opportunities for all UTHSC Students, Faculty and Staff to participate. In previous years, students and faculty have teamed up with community groups to offer services, such as blood sugar or blood pressure testing, asthma and dental education, eye exams and pre-school physicals. The Shelby County Health Department offers free immunizations for children (including pre-college immunizations). UTHSC and other groups provide free school supplies.
We realized last year that we needed UTHSC ambassadors to help guide the many community visitors through the maze of services in the SAC and Fitness Center. This is a vital role for those who may not have clinical skills, but are willing to share their smiles!
Please email Dr. Peg Hartig (mhartig@uthsc.edu) if you are available to participate as a service provider or an ambassador guide. Partial shifts are available for those unable to attend the entire health fair (starting at 8:30 for volunteers).
Even if you are not able to participate, please share news of this community service with your friends and family!
