The search committee for the next Chancellor of the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has narrowed the list to two outstanding finalists. The second and final candidate will be on the Memphis campus to present how she plans to fulfill UTHSC’s mission to improve the health and well-being of Tennesseans and the global community. This presentation is open to the public.

Provost and Senior Vice President, Academic and Faculty Affairs, Baylor College of Medicine
Dr. Alicia Monroe serves as Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic and Faculty Affairs, Professor of Family Medicine, and Cullen Trust for Higher Education, Provost Chair at Baylor College of Medicine (Baylor), Houston, TX. At Baylor, Dr. Monroe oversees academic affairs, academic accreditation and compliance, faculty development, faculty affairs, institutional diversity, inclusion and equity, and the center for professionalism. She currently chairs the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Advancing Holistic Principles Advisory Committee. Dr. Monroe is a member of the Baylor University Board of Regents, IU Health, Inc. Board of Directors, Methodist Health Group, Inc. Board of Directors, and MedEdPORTAL Editorial Board. She is also a past member of the AAMC Board of Directors.
She formerly served as the Chief Academic Officer, Vice Dean for Educational Affairs, and Professor of Family Medicine at the Morsani College of Medicine, University of South Florida in Tampa, FL, from 2008-2014. At USF, Dr. Monroe provided oversight for the undergraduate medical education program, the physical therapy program, and the master of science programs in graduate studies. She guided the development of a branch campus and a new medical education curriculum focused on leadership and collaborative care.
Dr. Monroe spent her early career at the Alpert Medical School at Brown University where she served as the Associate Dean for Minority Affairs and Professor of Family Medicine. Dr. Monroe earned her M.D. degree from Indiana University School of Medicine and completed an internship in psychiatry at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, DC, and a residency in family medicine at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, IN. She is the recipient of numerous teaching and mentoring awards. Her scholarly interests include physician-patient communication, cross-cultural communication, diversity and inclusion, leadership development, and mentoring training for students and faculty.
