Be The Match – Tuesday, March 15th 10am-1pm

|

Every three minutes, one person is diagnosed with a blood cancer. Every 10 minutes, someone dies from a blood cancer. That’s more than six people each hour, or 148 people each day. Patients are searching for a cure. It could be you. Help “Be The Match!” UTHSC’s College of Pharmacy APhA-ASP Global Health committee is hosting a bone marrow registry on Tuesday, March 15th from 10am-1pm in 910 Madison Ave. The process is simple! All it takes is entering your information into the registry and getting a cheek swab. When you join Be The Match Registry, your tissue type is added to the registry. It’s not a marrow donation; you don’t actually donate until you are a match for a patient. If you are chosen as the best match for a patient, the patient’s doctor will request that you donate either bone marrow or peripheral blood stem cells (PBSC). Seventy percent of all patients who need a transplant don’t have a fully matched donor in their family. You could be their match! Come out and show your support on Tuesday! Participants who enter the registry will have a chance to win an Amazon gift card. To pre-register, text UTHSC to 61474
