NACDS Foundation Awards $20,000 Scholarship to UTHSC College of Pharmacy

Memphis, Tenn. (May 14, 2013) – After being selected through the Pharmacy Partners Scholarship Program, the College of Pharmacy at the University of
Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) was recently awarded a $20,000 scholarship from the National Association of Chain Drug Stores (NACDS)
Foundation. The award will be deposited in the College of Pharmacy’s scholarship fund. Marie Chisholm-Burns, PharmD, MPH, FCCP, FASHP, dean of the
College of Pharmacy at UTHSC, accepted the award on the college’s behalf.

This year, the NACDS awarded $230,000 overall. With award amounts ranging from $10,000 to $40,000, awardees were selected from 48 applicant pharmacy
schools and colleges nationwide. Scholarships were awarded to 12 accredited pharmacy schools and colleges, based on the awardees’ strength in criteria
such as new and innovative community-based programs; percentage of graduates seeking community pharmacy positions; recent or ongoing community practice
research initiatives; number of community pharmacy residencies and shared faculty positions; and patient-centered coursework such as medication therapy
management certification.

“The College of Pharmacy is more than honored to receive this award,” said Dean Chisholm-Burns. “We are grateful for organizations like NACDS that
support the educational endeavors of our students as we continue to promote patient-centered care in our community and beyond.”

NACDS’ scholarship fund recognizes schools and colleges of pharmacy that emphasize advancing and improving patient care through community pharmacy and
have implemented innovative programs to prepare students for these new roles. Since the inception of the NACDS Foundation Pharmacy Partners Scholarship
Program in 1997, the Foundation has provided more than $3.2 million in scholarships for pharmacy students.
